Stop Losing Ground to the Water

Erosion is an issue anywhere there's water, and the ponds, tidal creeks and marsh edges around Charleston, Mount Pleasant, James Island and Johns Island are no different. Charleston Dock Doctors builds erosion control that fits the site: a hard wall where you need to hold a line, riprap where you need to break wave energy, and approaches that protect the marsh in front of you instead of walling it off. We also fix what is behind the problem, from runoff and drainage to washouts behind failing old walls.

At Charleston Dock Doctors, every project is built strong, fast, and made to last. Licensed, bonded, insured, and community trusted.

Detailed. Honest. Fast. We match the structure to your site, tides, and goals before work begins.

Erosion Control We Build

  • Vinyl and lumber seawalls, bulkheads and pond walls
  • Riprap and rock revetments
  • Drainage and runoff fixes on the land side
  • Repairs to washouts behind existing walls
  • Pond bank stabilization for HOAs and golf courses
  • Options that protect the marsh in front of you

Find the Cause Before You Build

Erosion isn’t one problem. Boat wake, wind-driven waves, a creek channel swinging toward your bank, runoff from your own yard and thinning marsh all eat a shoreline differently, and fixing the wrong cause is how people spend serious money and watch the bank keep retreating. We look first, then recommend the least you need to do to protect the property.

As a bank erodes, the critical line can move with it, which changes what you are allowed to build and where. Acting early keeps more options open. Read Erosion Control for Charleston Marsh Shorelines and When Erosion Moves the Critical Line.

How It Works

Our Process

  1. Site visit & honest assessment

We walk the site, read the water and the existing structure, and tell you straight whether to repair, rebuild or start new.

  2. Design, scope & permits

We size the structure to your tides, soil and goals, put the scope in writing, and guide you through permitting with the relevant agencies.

  3. Built around the tides

Our crew schedules pile driving and framing around tides and weather, keeps the site tidy, and keeps you updated as work moves.

  4. Walkthrough & care

We walk the finished work with you and explain what to watch for so it lasts through Charleston salt, sun and storms.

FAQs

Erosion Control Questions

A few of the questions we hear most often. Have another? Reach out and we'll be glad to help.

It depends on what is causing the loss. A wall is sometimes right; on a marsh edge it can make things worse for you and the neighbor downstream. See Erosion Control for Charleston Marsh Shorelines.

A seawall holds a fixed line and can level a yard; riprap breaks wave energy and can work where a vertical wall would reflect waves into the bank. Some sites use both.

Work along tidal shorelines and in the critical area generally needs approval, and the critical line itself can move as a bank erodes. See When Erosion Moves the Critical Line and Navigating Permits & Regulations on Your Own.

Usually soil is washing out through gaps or under the wall because of poor drainage or a failing wall. See Seawall Drainage 101: Weep Holes, Filter Fabric & French Drains.
